I Will Rise: What to Do After a Disappointing Result

↳

The email arrives, and the answer is no. Or the event ends with fewer people than you hoped. Or you put serious work into something and the response barely comes. For a moment, the disappointment seems to explain everything.

This reflection takes its starting point from “I Will Rise” by Jeff The Motivator & Lnoda. Give yourself a little space before deciding what one result means about your whole future.

Write down what happened in plain language. “My application was declined” is a fact. “I will never get anywhere” adds a conclusion you cannot know. Keeping the two separate can make the next decision clearer.

Review the attempt when you are ready

Ask what was within your control. Was the work complete? Did it reach the right person? Is there feedback you can use? Some outcomes will remain outside your control even after a careful effort.

Decide whether to improve the same attempt, try a different route, or put your attention elsewhere. Continuing can involve a change of direction. You do not have to repeat a plan unchanged to prove that you care.

Listen to “I Will Rise” while you consider your next move. Pick one action that belongs to the future: request feedback, revise the work, or set a date to begin again. Let that action be specific enough to do.
